Getting started
- Install Mint Ask Buyers from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a short setup checklist.
- Show Q&A on product pages: on the app home click Add block to product page. The theme editor opens with the Questions & answers block on your product template; move it where you want it and click Save. The block shows published questions and answers and the "Ask a question" form.
- Answer questions: new questions appear under Questions. Open one, write an answer and click Publish answer. Your answer appears on the product page with your store's name and a Store label.
- Invite buyers to answer (Pro): on the app home click Open checkout editor. Pick Thank you in the page menu at the top, click Add app block, choose Ask Buyers opt-in and Save. Do the same for the Order status page. Optionally paste the link from Buyers who help into your order notification emails.
- Check the emails (Pro): click Send test email on the app home — it goes to your store's email address.
How asking buyers works (Pro)
- A buyer sees "Help other shoppers" on their Thank you or Order status page and presses Yes, I can help. A page on your store opens where they choose the name to show (first name and last initial, or nothing) and confirm. The app checks their order's number and confirmation code with Shopify, then records the yes with its time and source, the order's email address and the products they bought.
- When a question is published, the app emails a few of those buyers who bought that product (you choose how many, 3 by default). It only asks buyers whose order is at least the number of days you set (7 by default) and at most 365 days old, never the same question twice, never the person who asked, and nobody more than the weekly limit you set (2 by default, 3 at most).
- The email has an Answer this question button. The link opens a page on your store with the question; it works once and expires after 14 days (you can change this). The buyer can also say they can't answer, or stop all question emails.
- Answers wait for your review unless you turned on automatic publishing for answers that pass the filter.
- Every email has a one-click stop link. Buyers who stop are never emailed again unless they say yes again on a later order.
Moderation
- A filter flags offensive words, links, email addresses and phone numbers, mostly-capital text and repeated text. Flagged questions and answers always wait for your review. Add your own words in Settings.
- On Pro you can publish questions and buyers' answers automatically when nothing is flagged. Your own answers are always published right away.
- Shoppers' questions also go through a hidden bot trap and rate limits.
Honest limits
- The opt-in block works on the Thank you and Order status pages, which support app blocks on the Basic Shopify plan and higher. It can't be added to the checkout steps themselves.
- Shopify only lets the app read orders from the last 60 days, so the opt-in link in order emails works for 60 days after the order.
- Right after checkout the order can take a few seconds to appear; the opt-in page waits for it automatically.
- The opt-in and answer pages are on your store, so while your online store is password protected, people need the store password to open them.
- Structured data: the app doesn't add schema markup. Google's guidelines don't allow Q&A page markup on product pages with several questions, and FAQ rich results are no longer shown, so we don't add any or promise search results.
- The storefront texts are in English; the block's heading and button text can be changed in the theme editor.
Common questions
The block shows no questions. Only published questions with at least one published answer are shown, unless you turn on "Show published questions that don't have an answer yet" in Settings.
A buyer said yes but wasn't asked. Check the wait time ("Ask buyers at least … days after their order") and the weekly limit in Settings. The question page shows who was asked.
The app says email sending isn't available. Questions, answers and opt-ins keep working and every email is kept and sent automatically as soon as sending works; there is nothing you need to do. If it lasts more than a day, contact us.
I changed the app proxy URL. That's fine: the app picks up the new path the next time a page on it is opened and updates the block and the opt-in link. Links in emails already sent keep the old path.
Plans
Free includes up to 15 new questions a month, the Questions & answers block (default colour, with a small "Powered by Mint Ask Buyers" line), answering in the app and the review queue with its filter. Pro is $7.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds unlimited questions, the opt-in block, question emails to buyers who said yes, automatic publishing rules, email texts, answer notices for shoppers, review notices for you, your accent colour without the "Powered by" line, CSV export and answer-rate figures. Plans are chosen and changed on Shopify's plan page (Plans → Choose a plan / Manage plan) and billed by Shopify.
Privacy
See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: buyers are emailed only after saying yes on their own order, their email is encrypted and deleted when they stop, we never store IP addresses, and every email to a buyer or shopper has a one-click stop link.
